Mangaluru: As Mangaluru rapidly transforms with modern residential towers and upscale apartments, concerns over construction quality are becoming increasingly prominent. A growing number of homeowners are reporting water leakage in newly completed buildings — particularly from walls, bathrooms, ceilings, and parking areas — causing disappointment among buyers who have invested lakhs into their dream homes.
Residents complain that water seepage issues surface soon after possession, especially during the monsoon season. Damp walls, mold growth, peeling paint, and seepage from window frames have raised questions about the long-term durability and safety of structures.
“It is extremely frustrating to invest our hard-earned money and face such problems in a new flat,” said a dissatisfied apartment owner from the city.
Real estate experts point out that the problem largely stems from compromised quality standards. “Poor waterproofing, substandard construction materials, and the race to complete projects faster are the main reasons behind such issues,” said a construction consultant.
Some reputed developers have reportedly begun taking proactive measures by conducting structural checks, rectifying defects, and upgrading waterproofing technology. Training construction staff and enforcing strict quality-control practices are also being initiated by a few responsible builders.
